Paul, what with your Intel and Microsoft, don't go pulling a second "retirement" on us (from your computer and SI). Actually, I suspect you have a lot of fun here between the technical stuff and fool baiting, eh, wot?

Tony

>> "With the DEC and ARM deals, Intel has done
exactly what you said they could do."

I agree. But with minor reservations. There
are similar situations, where what you see is
not how it really is. For example -- part of
the DEC deal is that Intel will have rights to
the ALPHA chip, its technology, production,
enhancement, for some number of years. On the
surface, this looks similar to the ARM deal.
But I think DEC could care less for the ALPHA
chip, or its technology. What I think Intel
got out of the deal is :

1. Stopping the nuisance lawsuit.
2. Getting a 2 billion dollar chip plant for
$600 million (or something close to that)
3. One less competitor.
4. Alpha customers

I doubt if Intel has ANY plans to have ALPHA
technology in its strategic plans.
