Teams are desperate for pitching. Scherzer use to be great. But he is older and injury prone now. Former stars hold on for the money. Look at Joe Flacco. Most Traders do the same thing: they hold on and perform the same trades when the market transitions from bull to bear and get crushed. Cohen is practical. He saw the handwriting on the wall with Scherzer and Verlander and cut his losses. Notice how Stearns won't pay for aging pitchers.
