Gauguin and All,

Indeed, Basset Hounds can be, ah, pungent, but do not have to be so. I've been acquainted with quite a few Basset Hounds that were housedogs. It's mostly in how often and how well they are groomed. On a note of canine trivia, most of the terrier breeds are largely unpungent. In fact, I can attest to the fact that the Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier is as free of odor as any dog I have encountered. Also, they do not shed and are hypollergenic. I think of them as fur persons. But then, I'm admittedly predjudiced.
