CNBC Issues Warning to Web Sites

NEW YORK, Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Minutes after Bill Griffeth, host of
CNBC's "POWER LUNCH," listed his favorite hot new business website,
Equitytrader.com's server slowed to a crawl. The interactive website,
designed to help traders and investors assess the current potential of
stockholdings, logged 3,600 hits per second.
"I always knew we had that kind of power," said CNBC's Griffeth of the
surge in users. "When we launched this new 'cool website' feature during
'Power Lunch,' we urged the websites we selected to be ready for numerous
hits. I don't think they knew exactly what to expect."
John Bollinger, Equitytrader.com's President says, "When Bill Griffeth
called to say Equitytrader.com was going to be featured on 'Power Lunch,' I
thought we were ready -- little did I realize the actual level of demand that
Bill's segment would generate. Since the segment aired on Wednesday at
1:OO PM, ET, we have responded by tripling the memory and adding another
processor but we're still not able to keep up with the demand, though we
expect to be able to do so shortly."
CNBC plans to continue its new feature, but with a little more warning.
"This is the perfect vehicle for CNBC's viewers," said Griffeth. "They tend
to be people who like to do their own research, take control of their own
portfolio and these types of websites provide them with the tools they need.
Our research shows that a growing number of CNBC viewers have a TV and a
computer sitting side by side in their office or home. It's clear the moment
we mention these websites people jump on the computers."
CNBC's "Power Lunch" airs weekdays from 12:00n - 2:00pm. The program
provides a fast-paced diet of financial and business news, including
interviews with CEOs, management consultants and other leading observers and
opinion makers.

Fidelity's new Web Express interface really sucks. This is a classical case of a cluttered graphics user interface (GUI) which defeats its original purpose (user-friendly?). It seems to take longer to navigate. On the bright side, trading with Fidelity is fast and reliable. You can actually see your order appearing on NASDAQ Level II under NFSC market maker as soon as your screen receive a confirmation number. Good luck.
