We've purchased chicks but they were all pre-sexed so did
not have the rooster culling problem.

When our hens die from old age or we lose them to hawks
or raccoons we replace them with them with hens that are just
about to lay. It's easier. The eggs really are very tasty.

On another note, lots of money was made this morning for those
"in the know".

having a bacon/fresh egg breakfast sanny w/dijon

the rich dark yellow of fresh free range eggs is on my delicacy list

oh, and the premium fresh ground fancy dark roast Kona coffee pairs rather well

edit:

The coffee is a custom blend I grind from two multi-generational Japanese coffee farmers I know. One was a founding member of Alan Wong's restaurants and the other literally wrote the book on modern coffee planting in Hawaii. He wins the cupping pretty much every time he bothers to enter.
