I don't gamble generally as a matter of course - unless you consider the stock market as gambling and I'll put money in the pot if a group of people are buying lottery tickets or taking a bet on something - more as a matter of being social. Oh, I admit I did buy some lottery tickets myself a couple of times in my life. So it's not a "religious" matter.

Growing up, gambling was something done by ... "the others".

My view is that some people find it a form of entertainment that they like to occasionally or regularly engage in.

Just like smoking or drinking, if it's under control, in my view, whatever floats your boat if it doesn't harm.
If not under control - it's bad.
Some people spend their money on drink, others on watching sports, others on gambling.
I don't care for those things, but then
I spend my money on my hobbies that some people may consider wasteful.

For a variety of reasons, I've been in casinos in different places a number of times.

The only time I put money down in one of them for gambling was when a friend urged me - literally a couple of dollars - so they'd stop bugging me.

A number of years ago I was in Vegas with much of the time by myself, so I explored, admired the fake/reproductions of sculptures and decorations, some original but I was by myself in my adventure so I did not gamble a cent. It's like smoking to a non-smoker - a big barrier and lack of interest.

In my view, casinos are depressing places - especially "slot machines" where people are just sitting there, pressing the button again the instant they don't win the round, occasionally "reserving" the machine they are playing on when they need to take a break so that someone else doesn't "take their win" - woo woo. The amount of effort and expensive in these casinos are interesting. Artwork on the machines are interesting.

I can see playing cards, there is some skill involved.
But too much and you're thrown out.

Recently a friend wanted me to go to the horse races with them.
Sure, if I can take home some manure for my garden - we're taking your car, right?
