That's what was and still is confusing to me. Ted Warren method is clearly a trend following strategy where averaging up, not down, by drawing long term 2 or 3+ year trend lines. He states in the book that unless you're in the board room, that's your edge and that the good news will follow. He clearly explains about market phases (Later copied by Stan Weinstein ie stages). He also goes into detail about relative strength (not RSI) instead more like "Mansfield Relative Strength" (again Stan Weinstein). Good read btw, no affiliation...

I'm not a fan of averaging down either and don't practice it.
