A manufacturing job in the USA in a segment where the end product which is being made commands perhaps a 15% gross margin (PCs, cell phones, toys, anything mass market) cannot be "well paying", because there is not enough profit in manufacturing to pay employees well Add generic pharmaceuticals to that list as the brilliantly articulate Pfizer board member, Dr. Gotlieb, pointed out today on CNBC. Trump should have had him in charge of health, but he went for a nut case in Kennedy to get votes from those who don't believe or trust science. The discrepancy in replies might stem from the fact that fewer Americans today work in blue color occupations and that a well-paying job in manufacturing would only be an upgrade for this subset of the population...... I've tried to encourage LeBron James and Steph Curry to "be the Black Panthers" and bring their shoe manufacturing to Oakland, CA from China... but they prefer to sell huge margin sneakers to those who really should be buying generic at Walmart then give some of the profits back to those communities to enhance their images as being philanthropic. In other words, if our government really worked for the people with the political parties cooperating, we could replace a lot of social programs with work training jobs right in the cities where skills such as showing up for the job on time and learning specific tasks would be taught as steppingstones for better jobs in higher margin industries. We could probably provide housing on site to give those living on the streets taking drugs a place to live and an easy job to feel productive. Anyway.... I doubt the current POTUS and his team will opt for cooperation just as the last one did.
