Ken: I joined the Chrysler Chess Club (my father's employed there) years ago. The club captain wanted to "initiate" me on my first game. He moved quickly and aggressively so I ignored that and concentrated on what I thought was sound development. After a short time onlookers threw up their hands and said "mate in three moves", and the captain gave me the game. I never could understand how I could win in three moves even after they showed me. Seems I did progressively worse in the several weeks that followed. As for how good I can play now, once I buy one of those drugstore checkerboards and some pieces...... I'll try! <g> "Deep Thoughts" 1) Chess ..... -am I'm in trouble now 2) MSB? Your initials, in this computer age of ours especially after Carols entry and computer programming lingo, make me think of a nick name: "Most Significant Bit" 3) A favorite song of mine in tune with our present topic of depression. This time mixed with an odd form of innocence, making it ideal for the bar room jukebox: which might be known to some as -"the friend of the bewildered" and in their time of need! (I like the simplicity of this one too.) (the song) (by David Ball & Tommy Polk) I made my plans to leave you far behind to put you in my past and get you off my mind So I took your memory on a midnight ride down a dark and lonely back-road and left it there to die (chorus) Look what followed me home -I thought I was alone but your memory -it's coming back to me I thought I'd left it behind -and had you off my mind my mind But I see I was wrong, wrong, wrong. -Look what followed me home I walked down to the river at the brake of dawn with a picture of you darling up underneath my arm I said "The heartache's over. Today is your last day" and I thanked that muddy river as it carried you away (chorus) (& out) But I see I was wrong, wrong, wrong. -Look what followed me home ******** 4) Dexx, I use Sam's too. (my membership card picture is "ugly"!) Your talk of the bird there reminded me of my mother in law's "sure fire cure to get a moth out of the house, under its own steam ....immediately." Wait until dark. Crack open the storm door. Turn off the lights. Turn on the porch light. -Wait 35 seconds- Hope the bird got out OK. ...I used to raise Homing Pigeons. Can you believe this? ....500 miles in one day! Now that's a "deep thought". good thread! Dave
