Qwest Announces New Contracts Worth Approximately $35 Million

Qwest to Provide Broadband Data Services to Sungard Recovery Services Inc.

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 18, 1998--Qwest, a multimedia communications company building the world's most
advanced fiber optic network, today announced it has approximately $35 million in new services contracts.

In an agreement worth potentially $10 million, Qwest will provide to SunGard Recovery Services Inc. broadband data
services over the Qwest Macro Capacity(SM) fiber network. Separately, Qwest has signed four sales agreements totaling
approximately $25 million to provide dark fiber capacity to third-parties.

The dark fiber agreements were reached with two major long distance telecommunications providers and an energy company.
Qwest is developing a broadband network capable of delivering a new generation of multimedia communications applications.

''With the growing importance of data communications in the business market, Qwest is extremely pleased to provide
SunGard with its advanced data services,'' said Lew Wilks, president of Business Markets at Qwest.

''SunGard is one of the world's largest providers of crucial computer disaster recovery services, and by selecting Qwest,
SunGard has endorsed the superior technology, reliability and integrity of Qwest's nationwide fiber optic network.''

''By choosing Qwest, SunGard is confident it can continue to grow its business in new strategic directions and achieve highly
competitive advantages in our markets,'' said Frank Schimberg, vice president of Telecommunications at SunGard. ''With this
agreement, Qwest becomes an integral component in the SunGard National Network.''

The Qwest Macro Capacity Fiber Network

Qwest's planned domestic 16,285 mile network will serve over 125 cities, which represent approximately 80 percent of the
data and voice traffic originating in the United States, upon its scheduled completion in the second quarter of 1999.

Currently, nearly 3,750 miles are activated from Los Angeles to Cleveland, and from Dallas to Houston. Qwest is also
extending its network 1,400 miles into Mexico with completion slated for late third quarter 1998.

The Qwest Macro Capacity Fiber Network is designed with a highly reliable and secure bi-directional, line switching OC-192
SONET ring architecture. Upon completion, the network will offer a self-healing system that provides the ultimate security and
reliability by allowing instantaneous rerouting in the event of a fiber cut.
