From what I found...

If you sell in May and stay in cash until November 1st when you buy again, then you would miss only 22% of the entire market move...

This is going back 120 years of market action...

This means 78% of the entire market upward movement over the past 120 years is made between the beginning of November and the end of April...

A rather interesting set of statistics fi this was done accurately...

This means you would still benefit from an advancing market between May and November but the market simply does not perform as well...
