The big QCOM news today, IMHO, is not the phone deal but the announcement by Sprint PCS that they are supporting cdmaOne for a 3G cellular system in the US. THAT is big, it removes doubts about whether cdmaOne had a market for it's WCDMA and also means that other countries will feel better about choosing IS95 now because the 3G will be backwards with their investments today.

Another factor is that the PCS carriers in the US have enough spectrum available (C block is open in most markets) to do a couple of 3G channels that we don't have to worry about freeing up new spectrum like Europe does. You can bet PrimeCo will jump on the bandwagon soon as well since they have a vested interest in this.

The US will have a commercial 3G system on the air before Europe, maybe even before all the IPR fighting and standards battles are finished over there.

Yeah!!
