Foster Farms Responds To Consumer Reports Article About Poultry
Safety

LIVINGSTON, Calif., Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The March issue of Consumer Reports contains
an article which raises issues regarding the safety of raw poultry. The magazine article reports the
results of tests of 1,000 chickens purchased from brand name U.S. poultry producers -- including
Foster Farms -- for freshness, taste and microbiological content.

Along with Consumer Reports, Foster Farms is always interested in improving the safety of
America's poultry products. The company takes extensive measures to ensure that consumers
are receiving the freshest, safest product possible.

''At Foster Farms, food safety is a major priority and the company utilizes the most
technologically advanced systems available to improve the safety of its poultry,'' said Randy
Boyce, vice president of Foster Farms. ''Foster Farms has been providing consumers with
California fresh poultry for close to 60 years and maintains an excellent safety record.''

To date, Foster Farms has reduced the level of campylobacter in its chickens by more than 60
percent (since the fall of 1997) and lowered the incidence of salmonella to less than three percent
(17 percentage points below the USDA's standard of 20 percent).

The company is continually employing new measures -- on its farm and in its plants -- to ensure
the safety of its poultry:

In the fall of 1997, Foster Farms made changes to modify and improve the poultry chilling
process to more effectively control microbial activity.
Stringent biosecurity measures are implemented at the farm level to prevent the spread of
bacteria among chickens.
Foster Farms does not use fluouroquinolones on its flock (an antibiotic used in humans to
treat campylobacter and salmonella).
Foster Farms employs stringent quality assurance and food safety programs mandated by
the USDA including the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points System -- which the
company has employed for years -- and Good Manufacturing Practices.
Foster Farms employs a Strategic Sampling Program above and beyond USDA regulations
to monitor daily for E.coli, salmonella, campylobacter, and total plate count.
Foster Farms has a certified lab on premises to conduct testing.
Foster Farms continues to aggressively seek out new and improved methods of microbial
control and implements those that are found to be effective.

I think the gentleman in that article should sign up for a class with folks at Cyclopss who are bad bug terrorizers.

"If we knew how we could get rid of these organisms in fresh raw foods, we would," said Kenneth May, technical adviser to the National Broiler Council. "But we don't know how to do that, and certainly not in any kind of cost-effective manner at all."

For all of us on this thread know that Ozone is very effective in eliminating salmonella and the likes very effectively. Ozone kills E.Coli 3000 times faster than irradiation techniques. Now it is a matter of before these folks get to these organizations and show them research and prove how effective Ozone is to purify Meat from bacteria... Cyclopss management is going in the right direction and have a big budget for educating people on the efficacy of ozone on bacteria besides a water based wash can clean any dirt also and is more comforting psychologically. This portion of the company (Cyclopss Food Corporation ) has a lot of emotional touch to it and may bump stock price to over $5 in a heartbeat on momentum play. The only thing we can do now is wait for some great news for a good run next time. I have reason to believe that news is about to be released pretty soon based the stock movement in the last few days.

There is a company that has a vaccine for the campylobacter bacteria. ANTX. It is up from .93 to 1.25 over the last two days. They have a good story. Other vaccines too, support by Smith-Kline Beecham. I have owned ANTX since 9/97 and OZON almost that long. Just an FYI and an odd coincidence that both these companies have different solutions for this one problem.
