THE WEEK IN PICTURES: ESCAPE FROM ALCATRAZ EDITION Remember the old days when there was such a thing as a slow news week? Good times, good times. The past week has been chock full of news, for better or worse. We have a new pope–sadly, another left-winger–but who knows, maybe he will grow in office. President Trump once again bestrode the world like a colossus, but his most meme-worthy initiative was restoring Alcatraz to its former glory as a penal island. It fires the imagination, doesn’t it? But let’s not get carried away with fantasies about Chuck Schumer, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Nancy Pelosi as the island’s new inmates. Although some meme-masters have done exactly that. I should add that, in response to my plea, the flow of Star Wars and Star Trek memes from our contributors has resumed, as you will see reflected in this week’s TWIP. Most of them, I actually got.
