I pay for my health care in Alberta because I don't want to wait 18-24 months for substandard "free" service. The seniors I know that need a hip or knee replacement, pay for immediate assessment and surgery rather than wait 12-18 months to see a specialist and then another 12-18 months for a surgery.. US doctors travel to Calgary to perform the assessment and surgeries. Alternately, some people travel to the US for assessment and surgery. 24 months or more is a very significant percentage of a persons remaining life when in late 60's or older. As the old saying goes, "coffins don't have pockets".
