Punishment methods for “500th” among Russian troops continue to shock. In the 15th Motorized Rifle Brigade, they bury deserters up to their necks in what's called a “tight pit.” In the 9th Motorized Rifle Brigade, they didn’t even bother digging — deserters were locked in a metal barrel. The occupiers in the barrel are denied food and water for several days, often leading to death. If they die, they are officially declared missing in action.
