I've rebuilt 100's of ICE engines from scratch and a bunch of Lycoming and Continental aircraft engines over the years.

The oil does not totally drain back into the pan.

Typical bearing clearance in a new engine (Crankshaft journal to bearing shell) is around 1 thousandth of an inch or less and that oil sticks to those surfaces for a long long time.

Most engines could run for well over a minute without oil pressure.before damage would occur.
