Right now, S. Africa increasingly imports items such as wheat, rice, poultry, palm oil, and sugar.

The trend indicates a gradual loss of competitiveness in specific agricultural sectors, making South Africa more dependent on foreign markets for these essential commodities.
If they don't bolster domestic production and reduce dependency on imports they will lose food security.
