I've seen no evidence over the last 50 years that they do. It seems to me that they only matter when the D's are in office. Personally, I'd like to increase income to reduce debt/deficit. I'm not sure when the magafecalists thought we were great, but taxes on the rich and corporations were undoubtedly higher than they are now.
