AOL cites electrical problem for overnight outage Reuters Story - February 24, 1998 10:04 %BUS %ENT %US AOL V%REUTER P%RTR NEW YORK, Feb 24 (Reuters) - America Online Inc said Tuesday it is investigating the cause of an electrical problem that interrupted the world's largest online service for several hours late Monday night. AOL spokeswoman Wendy Goldberg said an electrical malfunction of unknown origin was to blame for a systemwide failure at about 2115 EST on Monday, or 0215 GMT Tuesday. The interruption was not related to any kind of usage overload, she said. Goldberg said power to AOL's network systems was restored about an hour later and services other than e-mail were functioning after another 90 minutes. E-mail service was restored by 0230 EST/0730 GMT Tuesday, she said.
