OTOT Ramsey: <<I could have sworn that Greenspan just repeated irrational exuberance again. >> Yes, so did I.

Trivia - I read an article a while ago that gave sections of Greenspans "irr. exub." speech and showed that he was really talking about Japan; not the U.S. stock market, as many people interpreted it. That's why his follow-up comments seemed almost contradictory. You probably knew this but I didn't. (I thought you were going on vacation?)

Ramsey,

"Since you are the tech expert, I would like to ask you a tech question about this MOT news. It appears that so far only LU and QCOM got their CDMA products down. Is it possible that CDMA is so difficult that MOT is having problems with both handsets and infra stuff? If true, what type of problems may ERICY be facing with vaporware W-CDMA?"

Ahhh, I'll get back to you on that from a technical perspective :)

BUT, from the all important hype game view, would have to think that the herring crowd and the evil empire in Illinois are having a very bad hair day! And by the bye, wasn't it Surfer Mike who got crucified on this very thread for suggesting that the Mighty Q just MIGHT be a little pint sized to take on the whole frigging telecom world and that a tiny little alliance here and there would make his heart go pitty pat? Well boys and girls, Sprint PCS, Lucent, Motorola, and Nortel will fill the bill very nicely thank you very much. My motor's running as fast as the pooch's tail. Sorry, gotta run, Tero's on the other line, something about needing a recipe for crow. Surfer Miker

Re: Motorola's problems being possibly due to the difficulties of CDMA...

My reading of the WSJ article on Mot's problems suggested that their biggest problem was in implementing major system digital switching...rather than CDMA per se. Article suggested that digital communications, in general, had not been a Motorola strength. Rather they were strong historically in radio technologies (which translated directly and well to the analog systems).

Both Lucent and Nortel appear to have very capable digital switching for CDMA ... but neither is especially keen on integrating their key strength product into otherwise Mot infrastuctures.

Now, hasn't the Q done soup to nuts CDMA programs in a few places, such as Chile? Small pilot programs? Haven't heard of any technical problems there (other than the little "technical" issue of making money on those infrastructure type ventures).

Doesn't seem to be a CDMA unique problem.
