U.S. stock values may be hard to sustain-Greenspan

WASHINGTON, Feb 24 (Reuters) - Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan said on Tuesday ''certain values'' in the U.S. economy will be difficult to sustain, in an apparent reference to the stock market.

''There are certain values in the system which by historical standards are going to be difficult to sustain,'' Greenspan said in response to a lawmaker's question about any concerns the Fed might have over soaring equity prices.

''I'm concerned about that because it potentially is an issue which relates to the long-term values within the economy,'' the central bank chief told U.S. lawmakers in his Humphrey-Hawkins testimony.
