Iran's missiles breached Israeli air defenses.
No missile defense is foolproof.

Israel might have gotten complacent about the success rate of their Iron Dome.
Israel's goal of regime change may be a misjudgment.
Yeah, I don't get the strategic calculus here. The Iranian people may not like their leadership, but I don't see how JUST bombing them will create political instability. If that's Israel's ultimate goal, they need to follow-up with "less kinetic" means of fomenting a revolution, such as propaganda, or supporting revolutionaries within Iranian borders, or paying the right people to be rabble-rousers, etc.
