Lvl 2. Support at 38 1/2 disappeared:

Also, Glenn Rudolph found a pattern of selling by INCA (instinet)
after up-ticks. Short selling has to occur after an uptick. Thus,
a big part of what may be driving us lower now may be short
selling into the downward momentum as opposed to longs leaving.

Ultimately (how long down the road?) the existence of a short
positionshould help the upward momentum as the shorts
unwind.

I can tell you that I think xDSL is a band-aid for copper which is the past and fiber is the future. Therefore I consider WDM to be a better technology to place my bets on. - craig crawford

i believe with xdsl and wdm, you are comparing nuts and bolts. they clearly are aimed at totally different markets. as companies and people move from isdn and analog modems (ie 56k) towards xdsl, this creates even more demands on the internet infrastructure. xdsl will complement wdm, and neither will cannibalize the others area, but each will feed off the others momentum.

as far as dsl being a band-aid for copper, the speeds are far superior to current modems and to isdn that many people use. xdsl enhances copper will help allow for the growth of multimedia and new technologies over the internet to homes and small businesses.

such devices as cable modems and xdsl, pushes the bandwith necessary by the internet backbone. what do you see to the home if not xdsl? fiber to the home will not happen anytime soon, i remember when pundits predicted fiber to the desktop.

craig - Thanks for your response - I have a much better picture of CIEN's business today than I did yesterday. I'm now much more comfortable about my buy order.
