Bill, re: "Right now, I can't afford to buy a zip, for fear of COD."

So, what are you backing up on? Floppies? Almost every machine in our department has had to get their floppy drive replaced, and the disks go bad with regularity. A server? Well, the HD isn't good forever. They've got to back up to something, if they're smart. Nothing? Well...

CD-R, CD-RW? They should hold the data longer, but they're as expensive as a Jaz.

etc., etc., etc.

BTW, did anybody read the article in US News & World Report a couple of weeks ago on computer data archiving. According to them, nothing (not even CD's) will reliably hold digital data more than a couple of decades, except paper.

I guess you take very few risks. The Zip drive is available to almost anyone at a nearby store. If you consider the Zip drive in that store as your backup drive then you are essentially taking no risk providing you have properly backed up your important data on Zip disks.

Bill, why don't you do something real daring and go get that Zip drive you want and probably need. You should be able to do this with fear.

Thomas
