Hi Joe,

My understanding is that Esso has a facility near by as well. I'll try to find where I read this.

Hi Jim & Joe:
I think I can shed some light on your questions about gas plants in the general area of Turner Valley. Both the Pembina and Western Decalta plants are no longer gas processing facilities. The Pembina plant was shut down and dismantled in 1996 and the Western Decalta Plant has been a Government Historical site since the mid 1980's. As I understand the Pembina Plant's gas is piped to the Esso Quirk Creek Plant for processing. To give you both an idea of where the active gas plants are, with respect to the current Turner Valley play, I will list their distance, in miles as the crow flies, from the Berkley well site. I got this information along with processing capacities from the 1995 edition of the "Canadian Oilfield Gas Plant Atlas".

1. Imperial Oil Resources Limited Quirk Creek
7 miles due west of the Berkley well.
Raw: 90.00 mmcf/d Dry: 67.00 mmcf/d
Built: 1971

2. Canadian Occidental Petroleum Ltd.(Now Compton Petroleum)
24 miles east and 7miles south of the Berkley well.
Raw: 44.00 mmcf/d Dry: 22.00 mmcf/d
Built: 1986

3. Shell Canada Limited Jumping Pound
10 miles west and 27 miles north of the Berkley well.
Raw: 272.80 mmcf/d Dry: 200.00 mmcf/d
Built: 1951

4. Petro Canada Wildcat Hills
14 miles west and 33 miles north of the Berkley well.
Raw: 104.00 mmcf/d Dry: 87.00 mmcf/d
Built: 1961

5. Wascana Energy Inc. Balzac Gas Plant
17 miles east and 30 miles north of the Berkley well.
Raw: 80.00 mmcf/d Dry: 47 mmcf/d
Built: 1961

6. Amoco Canada Petroleum Company Ltd. East Crossfield
14 miles east and 45 miles north of the Berkley well.
Raw: 182.01 mmcf/d Dry: 114.01 mmcf/d
Built: 1967

While this is a listing of all the major sour gas plants in the Turner Valley / Calgary Area I don't think it would be likely that gas would ever be piped from the well site area to either plant # 5 or # 6 as this would require installing pipelines close to, and around the City of Calgary. I am not exactly sure what the Gas Plant Atlas means by Raw and Dry but I assume it has something to do with gas shrinkage after the removal of the sulphur and natural gas liquids.

Hope This Helps
Dave
