The latest AAII sentiment survey is somewhat more bearish than last week’s and slightly more bearish compared to historical norms. Currently bullish sentiment is 39.3% bullish, 21.8% neutral and 39% bearish. Historical average is 37.5% bullish, 31.5% neutral and 31% bearish. The 52 week high was nearly a year ago, the week ending 8/21/24 at 51.6% which preceded a roughly 10% pullback into September.

I think, as long as sentiment stays only slightly to moderately bullish, the averages have room to rise. Although it does feel like a pullback is overdue.

Thank you for your kind words. It has been a good run these past few months. Grateful. But. wary of a decline which should be on deck seasonally. Typically I give too much back when the market changes. You’ve been exceptionally cautious lately, so I was wondering if something about today’s close would change your stance. You are one of the SI people I respect the most and I like to keep track of your thinking.

Thank you for your always illuminating and informative posts!

Best,

Kate
