Networks....Winproxy

I have two computers talking to each other (file sharing)but have not advanced beyond that stage. The only comment I can make is that Wingate deerfield.com is free for two computers vs the $49 for Winproxy. We have at least two users of Wingate (Ken and Dirk if my memory is correct). From what I can tell they look like similar programs. Hopefully we can get some input on the differences.

I would like to know which one is more user friendly, easier to configure and whether or not they provide the same capability.

Regards

Zeuspaul

I don't have any personal experience with Winproxy but It appears to be similar to WinGate which is free. I prefer a hardware configuration over a software set up. Main reason is your connection, with WinProxy (from what I read) if your PC desginated as the server goes down none of your units attached to the network will be able to connect to the Net. So you become very dependent on that one machine.

With a hardware configuration you can structure it so that any unit on the netwok can connect to the Net regardless of the working or non working condition of your server unit. Of course the big issue is $$ and how much you are willing to spend. WinGate is free, WinProxy $49.00, a Router $600.00 and up. If I was to choose between the two (WinGate / WinProxy) I'd go with with WinGate. Mainly due to my experience with it and the cost.

Another nice aspect of WinGate is it's support for 32bit applications and DOS, this may be provided by WinProxy but I didn't see any reference to it at their site.

Anyone else have any experience with WinProxy
