Trudeau was Canadian prime minister from 2015 until March of this year after announcing plans to resign in January. In December 2024, his close ally, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, quit amid tensions over how to respond to Donald Trump’s threat to slap a 25 percent levy on Canadian goods and services. In April, Perry became the first pop star in space on board Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin rocket.
