Dan, PMFJI, but even George Gilder, much as I like him..had to accept that SiGE has no prospect of replacing GaAs for most applications for the forseeable future...and yes, I did read his initial assertions.
If there were serious factual basis for expecting Germanium doped silicon to replace GaAs, that "fact" would already be so widely known in the industry that VTSS would sell down, and ATML would be booming... just the stock action alone tells you the story. GaAs is likely to remain the most cost effective solution especially in communications applications for the as many years as can be projected ahead. If and when SiGe becomes more than a niche product, IMHO, VTSS will develop a capability to deal with it.
BTW, ATML is also on my watch list...they could turn things around really fast, under the right industry conditions, don[t you think? Duane
