What we call AI is unsustainable for the amount of energy consumed for capability delivered. Like with Tesla and crypto, what is driving it now is the potential. An unfortunate number of the 1% and those with aspirations to such, Noodles is a candidate, see AI as a way to rid ourselves of the need for the vast majority of humanity. The handful of The Chosen will live on vast estates, served by robots, supported by the wealth of the planet. Much like Asimov's Solaria in his Robots series. A lot of people are betting that AI is either at the point or within striking distance of enabling that Dream. And then we can get down to the serious business of thinning the herd.
