Read Replies (2) | Respond to of 1575901 Tenchu's Thoughts - The Complexities of TACO's New Tariffs on India ‘Unfair, unjustified and unreasonable’: India’s 5 point response to Trump’s tariff (The Indian Express) Just to summarize those five points:US targeting India’s oil trade “The United States has in recent days targeted India’s oil imports from Russia.” India reiterates sovereign energy security “We have already made clear our position on these issues, including the fact that our imports are based on market factors and done with the overall objective of ensuring the energy security of 1.4 billion people of India.” Selective targeting “It is therefore extremely unfortunate that the US should choose to impose additional tariffs on India for actions that several other countries are also taking in their own national interest.” Rejection of the tariffs “We reiterate that these actions are unfair, unjustified and unreasonable.” Firm Warning “India will take all actions necessary to protect its national interests.” And here are some of my thoughts regarding all of this.#1 Trump Has No Strategy This is obvious, but it bears repeating. Trump has no strategy for ending the war in Ukraine. He just tries one thing after another just to see what happens. If Trump really wanted to, he could go after RuZZia's shadow fleet of oil tankers, but he's too stupid to even think about that. The only thing that is going through his damaged brain is "tariff tariff tariff."#2 India Is Bullshitting About Their "Sovereign Energy Security" Make no mistake, however. India's "sovereign energy security" doesn't revolve around buying cheap RuZZian oil. Why do I say this? Because India is merely profiting from the discount on RuZZian oil. The Indian oil refiners then pocket the discount, turn the crude oil into sellable products like gas, and sell the refined products at market prices. Moreover, oil prices are hovering around $65-$70 per barrel. There is hardly any shortage of oil to speak of. Even prices at the Indian pump speak volumes. Right now it's around $1.09 USD per liter, which is equivalent to $4.14 per gallon. It's not that much more than the U.S. average price of $3.28/gallon. Of course, the average income of Indians is much, much less than that of the average American, but then again, most Indians don't even own cars.#3 India is Right About Trump's Selective Targeting Right now, India should already know that the Trump regime operates by bullying those they perceive to be weak. The TACO Supreme Commander is too scared to reignite a trade war with China, the other major buyer of RuZZian oil, so instead he goes after India. But Modi has one thing going for him, and that is populist Indian support, especially among the Hindu majority. Right now, Indian nationalists are PISSED at Trump for giving Pakistan a pass on their terrorist attacks in Kashmir. Now Trump gave them another reason to be absolutely pissed off at America right now.#4 Trump is Making BRICS Stronger BRICS was always a curious alliance. It was never even an actual economic alliance until Goldman Sucks came up with the acronym, and only to lump together the largest emerging markets in the global economy. And even though PooTin, China, India, and their sympathizers in social media love to play up the BRICS alliance, the truth is that this is one of the most unstable "alliances" ever to be created. But thanks to Trump, this alliance may actually grow closer. I wouldn't be surprised to see Modi start to thaw relations with China. I wouldn't be surprised to see PooTin going to India and improving trade relations in spite of Western sanctions. Remember that RuZZia wants to import a million Indian workers and maybe bamboozle a few thousand of them into the Ukrainian front lines. I expect to see China and Brazil deepen their trade relationship. India might also start to trade more with Brazil and the rest of South America. And as Trump tanks the U.S. dollar and makes U.S. Treasury bonds less attractive to the global markets, the rest of the world will be incentivized to look toward BRICS (and the EU) as an alternative. Conclusion: Without a Strategy, This Isn't Going To Work Kudos to Trump for recognizing that India can't keep supporting RuZZia without consequences. But bad on Trump for thinking that tariffs are going to work without a strategy in place. The geopolitics are complicated, and turning up the pressure in one area will have unintended consequences all over the place. We need someone who can appreciate these complexities. Nothing wrong with brash actions as long as there is at least an awareness of the consequences. But time and time again, Trump demonstrates that he has no clue. And all he might accomplish is making 1.4 billion Indians mad. Tenchusatsu
