Skiing rescue in (most of?) Europe is a good example. If you take prohibited, roped off or marked as “At your own risk” slopes and need rescue, you will have to foot the bill. A friend of mine got himself into a situation like this in Austria many moons ago and it cost him a lot of money. He fought it in court and lost. The verdict (not verbatim): “You knowingly put yourself into a totally unnecessary dangerous situation. Why should anyone but you pay for your rescue?”
