Here's another take on the results:

What did they say about UB? Do they expect it to contribute to the earnings next quarter or is it a total write off with the 181 Mil charge.

I wasn't paying full attention to that part of the conference call (I had already fully written off UB). I believe they indicated that most, if not all of the 450 UB employees are toast. ... that UB is not a significant factor going forward. but then I may have heard what I already believed rather than what was actually said.

Did they comment on the drastic loss in TDM sales? Do they expect it to slowly die or is there a chance that it will hold its own.

This was discussed at some length. First, last quarter saw the downside of "lumpy" orders. i.e. Rather than the same number of units being ordered each day, week or month by their customers, they get them in "lumps". Last quarter, there were fewer lumps than usual. One of the Newbridge responders speculated that we may see more TDM sales than normal this quarter.

Further, TDM is not dying (an impression that I mistakenly had). Rather, TDM traffic will continue to be carried on ATM networks.

Did they say anything about the 300 mil in cash? Share buy back?

They mentioned their cash position in reporting the results. I didn't hear any discussion of a share buyback. IMO, a rapidly growing high tech company with huge R&D requirements can find much better ways to improve shareholder value than using its cash to buy its own shares. Buying shares is a rather shortsighted and futile approach to raising share price temporarily rather than kicking CSCO, BAY, ASND, CS, etc. butt.

Essentially, TDM and ATM are doing well. I'm new to NNC. I don't yet know all the product model names and numbers, so I can't accurately comment on whether or not other product lines are also growing smartly.

My overall impression was that the company was confident, the tone of the call was relaxed and friendly. Management has a strategy with clearcut plans which focus their efforts on achieving the desired results.

I would like to thank all the Mutual Fund managers who have dumped NNC during the past few months for creating this month's opportunity. :-)

Ian

I'll attend NN's presentation here at the BARS conference in a.m. From what I've learned so far, there are a lot of big investors (funds, and managed accounts) waiting for the 48hour time restriction to expire so they can load up. They couldn't buy for 1 month prior to earnings and have to wait 48 hours after.

I'm in a hurry, so can't respond to cc call --- actually fell asleep last night listening to the questions. :) No negative surprises. Great numbers re: 36170 --- up 150% from similar Q last year. Over 250 customers now, 80 this quarter alone.

Later --
