The points that Andrew makes are critical.

Microtransactions enabled by the Wave system will spawn more efficient -- and therefore more economical -- distribution models. Users will be able, for example: to rent an application; to buy access to just one segment of a more comprehensive database; to try out an application or other title on a "rent-to-own" basis; or even to pay "by the bullet" to play a shoot-em-up game.

I have the same impression about the IBM timeline. Although they will not ship Wave-enabled hardware before the third quarter, I think we will begin to hear about those shipments pretty soon. I also believe (perhaps just on faith) that a developing synergy among other OEMs and content developers will result in other announcements in the near term.

The one thing you mention that I don't follow is the notion that Wave would become a distribution channel for "any type of product, digital or otherwise." Thus far I understand the Wave system as relating only to "digital" property.
