My question is why the union doesn't FIRE the investment committee for making these stupid Investments - they've owned AMD for years and were too stupid to unload when it went up.

your interpretation may be correct yet in the article that you have pointed to I was not able to find any indication of AMDs current status. The rep reflected on the recent poor performance (yields) which were the reason for the stock decline. But rep was consistent about not reviling any news that was not already known and he did not indicate one way or another the current yields.
