Z,

As far as I know there hasn't been enough of the static testers sold yet to make a large impact on yields. These have only just begun shipping in any appreciable volumes.

Best,
Stitch

HTCH's lower volume is due to 2 factors:

1) While the DD industry is transition to MR, it also
is beginning to transition to a wireless suspension.
There is less demand for the old wire suspension.

2) HTCH is having trouble making the new suspension.
From what I hear, HTCH went to full automation with
their new equipment and is having trouble getting
all of it to work. Yields are horrible and customers
can't get enough of the new suspensions.

I suspect that HTCH will be fine once it solves the problem.

DD is going to a wireless suspension because ultimately it
will be cheaper (no wire) and will provide more space to fit
more heads and disks.
