Then this today -

  • Skechers ( SKX, Financial) is set to go private following a $9.4 billion buyout by 3G Capital. The deal, expected to close on September 12, marks one of the largest privatizations in the footwear industry, with 3G Capital aiming to enhance Skechers' global growth and innovation.

Another go private deal. GOOS was earlier this week

Clothing retail. Agree that it's often a cyclical business. (Maybe not Ralph Lauren( RL). Growth stock? Taylor Swift further helps.) Fashion is cyclical. And also retail stores are subject to economic vagaries and merchandise and business mismanagement.

Thus my opinion: Why should an investor spend time to discern whether the particular business is "larger and earning more a decade from now", when what seems important is when in the cycle you determine to enter and then when you leave?

I hold tracking positions in the three stocks mentioned.
