Bill c. the Internet is not used for informing R&D personnel that there is no job for them anymore. It also unnerves the public image of the company and is thus kept quiet. Maybe you should get connected with some of the relocation people in this area and ask them about WSTL. Ask them if people are coming or going there. I know that is difficult to do but it is my suggestion (short of just listening to what I am saying which I know you don't believe). Now the termination was succinct and directed at the fringes of engineering development, so hopefully it doesn't hurt the internal programs much. But the wounds to the remaining personnel are very deep; broken trust in management (they were assured of no engr. layoff when FAW left) and fear for their futures, it can lead to a significant exodus. There have been some departures and they were cutting-edge people, there are more on the docket, and more after that. Now, the tide can be stemmed if honesty and integrity become the keywords of the management team and they take that approach quickly. Zionts has not shown himself to be that kind of leader (he's more of a salesman) and the ball is in his court for internally saving this company. But those that have left are fracturing the already understaffed projects in progress and that inevitably leads to future delays or quality problems in the product's initial release. Take this in part as opinion, mine and my friends, and as fact (there were terminations in R&D). Oh, incidentally, these terminations were NOT related to the Faw killing. Only ADSL mktg. Folks were canned then (mostly). In fact, the company assured its troops that the current layoff was just one-time and would not involve R&D. Weeks later A few more are let go. By the way was there an URL for those folks outside of Faw ? Now the comments on the R&D parties. I don't believe they were prevalent, but I am sure they would be appreciated now, except not the "going away luncheon variety". All companies use the Internet to advertise job opportunities, but I hope that the other cos. Are more sincere than WSTL. You see if WSTL had taken Teltrend's (another local CO.)approach and removed their job opportunities when they initiated a job-hiring freeze, it might look bad or something, but at least it would be the right thing to do. Not everything off the net is actually up to date and truthful. Some hiring can still be done at WSTL( I think some S/W or replacements), but not all of those listed in the employment opportunities, those came from their job fair last year. HDSL does sell outside the US. What is WSTL current volume on the European product? But why did you post the press release for the automatic protection switch, which has nothing to do with HDSL? Yes WSTL sells an HDSL product internationally but it lacks some features or it would do better. I am guessing here but I do not believe Korea buys the HDSL product at all. Probably because the product they buy is T1 based. Now is Korea paying for that European R&D project? One last comment on the employee situation. You folks on the thread immediately took Seamans' illness as some lame sign of his departure. Like WSTL couldn't tell you he was gone just that he was sick. Well the company made damn sure to its people that he would RETURN and that they were concerned for his well-being. Iam told that there were memos and meetings and on and on. Yet in the last several months there has been no mention of Seamans' return, not a word of how he is doing. No mention of how he and Zionts fit into the future. And it is because you were right! He ain't coming back and Zionts is the boss. But the problem lies in the deception to the employees, THEY WERE NOT TOLD PROPERLY! They were left hanging in the balance unclear of the company's future direction. And while we all saw that press release as an adieu to Seamans, many co. employees did not. And that gets us back to the exodus, the reason to leave --honesty and integrity, is it there? why has the company not told everyone that he is not coming back, that his 3 month LOA means that he was ousted and why didn't they convey this message to their people?
