No, it's not about derivatives, at least from my readings over the years. Those numbers are similar to what it would take to pay off US federal debt for a full reset to monetary bimettalism (gold and silver backing of the dollar). I don't think that is likely to happen in a reset, but it is probably going to be at least a part of it if. And it will probably happen sooner than many are capable of appreciating.

Whether or not the financial system falls from a derivatives crisis MAY be another matter.
