(UEC) Stock By: Arundhati Sarkar , SA News Edit Uranium Energy (NYSE: UEC ) announced Tuesday that it has launched a new subsidiary, United States Uranium Refining & Conversion Corp, to explore the possibility of building a modern uranium refining and conversion facility in the U.S. "Positioning UEC as the only vertically integrated U.S. company with uranium mining, processing, refining and conversion capabilities is both a significant commercial opportunity and a strategic necessity for the United States," Amir Adnani, UEC President and CEO said. "We are structuring UR&C as a subsidiary to advance this initiative in a fiscally optimal manner, including tactical partnerships and direct investments." The company has also initiated discussions on potential siting options, evaluating factors such as logistics, workforce availability, public acceptance, local incentives, and synergies with other fuel cycle facilities. The claim that UR&C will position UEC as the only American company with a full nuclear fuel supply chain capability (from U3O8 to UF6 delivery) might be plausible but forward-looking, as the UR&C facility is not yet operational, nor is there even a timeline. This will take years in light of regulatory and licensing requirements. In the meantime, Centrus will be producing HALEU, LEU, and LEU+, as the only NRC certified US-based enrichment company. Also, in the meantime, Energy Fuels, which owns the White Mesa Mill,-- the only conventional uranium mill in the U.S., with a licensed capacity to process up to 8 million pounds of U3O8 annually, will be producing the most U308 in the US. It also processes rare earth elements (REEs) and vanadium, showcasing its versatility. UEC does not own a uranium mill. Currently, no U.S. company integrates mining, processing, refining, and conversion, but Centrus Energy plays the major role in HALEU, LEU, and LEU+ enrichment. Only Cameco, a Canadian company, can make the claim of being truly vertically integrated, at least in N. America. I find this statement by Amir Adnani a nice attention-grabbing advertisement for political and visibility purposes, but very little to back it up. But this is typical of Adnani.
