I disagree. Does you analysis of SPARC go any deeper than what you've presented here? Do you have any information backing up your claim that Solaris will not be native/optimized on Merced? Do you think Microsoft's NT will be any more native or optimized on Merced? On what basis? Just My Humble Opinion and Questions.

Are you suggesting they're going to build a sparc emulator on Merced? As for optimization, Sun will get as much performance as it can out of any platform it ports to. This has been the case with x86 all along - Solaris outperforms other OS's on identical intel hardware. here's one real-world example (there are others) sun.com
