Peter, NOW you are going to get a flame. So far, I've been holding back! ;)

"First of all, the classic site IS ONLY available on backup servers, which you REALLY should not use."

In other words, you're really only giving lip service to the majority of your customers who prefer the classic version.

"The new, ultra-plain fractions are now on the classic site. Its very lite, 60% fewer calories."

At least you've thrown us a bone. And once again I'll praise you on the disapparence of the log, just to reinforce that we like that it's gone. Should you think at some point you are going to take leave of your senses and bring back the logo, just repeat this mantra: "we LIKE no logos!"

"And as a rebuttal to the critisizm, is it really amazing that it took 3 days to decide on, code, test, and roll out a significant new interface? Please provide specific examples of companies that can do that faster. I am VERY curious."

You're kidding, right Peter? Do you really think that this foolish decision is something to be congratulated for?

What you did was design and roll-out an ill-conceived, buggy new interface that nobody wants way too quickly and without sufficient testing. This is NOT something I'd put on my resume! ;)

What was the imperative to do this so quickly? What would have been the harm in putting a bit more thought into this and actually beta testing it - not only for technical reasons, but to see how users react to it? (Did Coke market test "new coke"? If they did, they must have ignored the results when they weren't what they wanted to hear...)

"Remember, the old-old style was available all along."

Where? Lots of us would like to know! (Other than orders7, that is.)

Peter, thanks for improving the New Classic interface.

The change column is still in the fancy fractions which makes the rows taller than necessary and consumes a lot of extra vertical space needlessly. Was this just an oversight? Please fix.

Would you please put the Quote Time just above the actual quotes and below the Get Quote button. This allows you to see the time and quotes in a smaller window and refresh it without having to scroll every time.

Thanks.

Peter,
I sure like orders 6 this morning. Very easy to read and loaded fast.
Thanks

Do I detect a bit of hostility Peter? <g> You give me the feeling that Datek customers "Must" do it your way or else. What ever happened to the "Customer is King" attitude that I had to use in my business??

I don't want to get into a p*ssing contest with you but I do have some questions....

Now let's see. I'm supposed to use the log-in button to log on to Datek. And this "does" take me to an "old-classic" interface. Thanks. But this procedure blows my HMTL frames trading page to h*ll. So, if we check out the URL of the server that the log-in button takes me, it reads orders3. Now the big question arrises... why do I have to use the log-in button to get to server 3 which is the same URL I've been using since you changed orders6 to the "new classic". Is there a special reason for using that log-in button except to find the next available server? And just how many servers do you have using the "old classic" interface? I can only find two. Numbers 3 and 8. So while all those other servers are doing their "New Classic" thing <g> everybody is hooked up to either 3 or 8 and I would be willing to bet both are well used. I am also really curious as to how busy those other 8 (?) servers are. But anyway.....

As for the font change.. it's better but the data still appears all run together. IMO.. FWIW. Highlight the individual cells with border lines....

Regards.

John

Peter, I want to thank you for responding to our complaints. Accessing and using the system today was a breeze compared to the past few days or week. I will not join in with those that flame you. You have listened, responded, and changed things in the order of compromise. We should all hope that most things about businesses with which we do interact would listen and respond as quickly. Kudos.

I do agree with one poster about the following:
"The practice of bookmarking a server and connecting to it everyday is NOT the best way for you to find the least loaded server. The BEST way is to bookmark the login page and....."

Each and every time that I did try this, my system bit it up and spit it out. Locked up, reboot. Everytime. That is why I bookmark the servers.

One other question: will there be a separate way to access charts, news, etc?

Again, thank you for the quick action. We always cannot read our customers' minds in what we think they would like, but the trick is to change to what they do like as quick as possible thereafter. I do know that you get more flames than kudos, that is the nature of the beast. People are quick to complain, slow to praise. Thanks again. Debra

Here's another voice against the new interface. The old interface is nice and simple and fast and compact. Rather than waste time on the new interface, here are some improvements I would make to the old interface are:

1. Remove the links above the order entry fields on the quotes/order page. These links just get in the way when you tab to the next field - they slow you down.
2. Add links from the symbols in the quotes and portfolio pages to an order screen with symbol and quantity (from the portfolio page) already filled in. This speeds up entering of orders. E*Trade does this and I like it. It could be even better if there were separate buy and sell links. Datek appeals to daytraders and we need ease of use and speed!
3. Include the open price in the quotes.
4. Allow more symbols to be entered on the quotes page.
5. Be able to add to the symbols instead of having to retype all the symbols.
6. Be able to keep more than one set of quote symbols.

The reason I like the old interface is because it's simple and fast. Please keep it that way!

Peter , I use the old "classic" server 7 express server. For some reason I can no longer 'tab' across the fields, with one push of the 'tab' button. It now stops on the words written above the entry field. ex., Quantity, Symbol, Price.....why did it start doing this? SPEED is of the essence, and I would like to be able to TAB across the entry fields, quickly. Can you look into this? Do you understand what I am saying? Thank you.........;^)

Peter, just saw one of the new classics change to flat change values (that work for + and -) and this is soooo much better.

Thank you.

Oops - just noticed that SEG has a change of "-" ie just a red minus sign with no value. Should be 0.

It works for me.

The new, modified, "classic" seems to me to be a workable compromise between conflicting desires.

1. Everything seems to go faster now.

2. I'm pleased that the old-style, readable, fractions were kept.

3. I like the new olive surrounds. When you introduced them I switched back and forth between old classic and new classic and realized how harsh the all-white screen was on my eyes, something I hadn't even been aware of previously.

4. I am displeased with the lack of the spread on the confirmation page, but never mind, I open another window and check it there before pushing the last button. I am unable to think of a reason for not including it, except, possibly, speed; it leaves the unfortunate impression that it may have been left out to encourage more trading.

5. I, too, think cell surrounds would enhance readability; but I am happy with what I assume is the trade off - getting more quotes onto the page.

So, altogether, good, fine. Thank you for keeping the old classic and, perhaps, bettering it. When do you go public?

Tomabre

Peter, I just posted a query on buying and selling the same stock. It seems that if you place the buy before the sell, then it won't be accepted, but if you place the sell before the buy it's OK. A rather cute bug in the software methinks?
