Worswick,
The HMO business is going thru a boom/bust cycle that will end now in a major consolidation phase (that is already well under way). Oxford represents a company who marketed its way to the top of the NYC region. The premium escalations that will ensue with this consolidation will return this entire sector to strong profitability. Not all companies in this sector have suffered the mismanagement that was endemic at Oxford. The maturation of Managed Care in NYC has only started to fully take hold and the company that snatches up Oxford will benefit two fold. The premium escalations and the resistence to the managed care tenants has disappeared in this all important market. Oxford has led the way and the company who buys them will benefit from their efforts. It is the shareholders from 25-85 that are the unfortunate loosers and will have their day in court.
It reminds me of when I owned DELL at 25 and the company was being sued for shareholder fraud. I was contacted by lawyers to join this suit which I didn't and now look at DELL. I made money and sold at 40.
Buyer be ware is the rule of this jungle.

DrRisk this carcass has stopped smelling to me.
