It's interesting that the whole reason the minivan became a thing was because of laws mandating infant car seats. Prior to that, you could just stack your kids in a car like cord wood.

The infant car seat and later booster seats for older kids led to the disappearance of the coupe, as sedans and minivans made it far easier to to navigate those restraints. Later, trucks and SUV's joined the fray with 4-door short bed pickups the norm these days rather than the exception.
