Metalclad Announces Construction Start of Industrial Waste Landfill in Mexico

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Feb. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Metalclad Corporation (Nasdaq: MTLC), engaged in the development of
industrial waste treatment facilities in Mexico and insulation services in Southern California, announced today it has begun
construction of an industrial waste landfill in the State of Aguascalientes, Mexico. The contractor for the project is Consorcio
Urbanistico, S.A. de C.V. (CURSA). Design of the project was completed by Harding Lawson Associates' Mexican affiliate, Grupo de
Ingenieria Ecologica, S.A. de C.V. (GRIECO). Construction financing is being provided by the contractor and the Company. Completion of
the project is expected in August, 1998.

The Company also announced that on Tuesday, February 17, 1998, Mexico responded to the Company's expropriation claim which
was filed with the International Center for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) pursuant to the North American Free
Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in January 1997. Because Mexico failed to timely file certain translations of portions of its response,
the Company has asked the Tribunal to rule on this issue before determining the need for further pleadings and hearings at which
time the Company will be able to better forecast the time required to conclude the arbitration.

The Company has planned a conference call to discuss the foregoing developments for Tuesday, March 3, 1998 at 11:00 a.m. (EST). Those wanting to participate should call (973) 694-2225 at the appropriate time.

Statements in this release that are not strictly historical are "forward- looking" statements which should be considered subject to the many uncertainties that exist in the Company's operations and business environment. These uncertainties, which include economic and currency conditions, market demand and pricing, competitive and cost factors, and the like are included in this release.
