It's Us, or Israel: Arab Leaders Will Press Trump to Shield Them From His Top Ally in the Region
A summit hosted by Qatar this week sends a message to the U.S., demanding protection from Israel in the aftermath of the Doha strike. While the meeting may be declarative, it could carry practical implications for Israel

Zvi Bar'el, Haaretz
September 14th 2025 IDT

For the third time in two years, a "special" Arab-Islamic summit will convene in the Qatari capital of Doha, a meeting framed as a show of regional solidarity with the host, an American ally that was attacked by Israel. Gaza will feature at the summit meeting, but only as a minor player in a show meant to summon Washington so that it blocks the Israeli threat.
In the view of the summit's participants, the Israeli attack in Qatar showed its neighbors and other countries in the region that the hostage deal, the campaign against Hamas and the conquest of the Gaza Strip are placing them under a concrete threat, from which even their status as American allies affords no protection.
Previous summit meetings, the first of which took place in November 2023 and the second a year later, yielded lofty declarations with multiple clauses but few actions.
