What you say has some merit, steve. :-)

(no secret that I'm long-term bearish on the stock, though -- discounting a future that's improbable -- see NSCP)

It is not enough to say I can get you out of AOL free. There needs to be some branding. I think such an announcement, could perhaps make a temporary dent in the stock price. More important would be the landing of a major advertising account by Earthlink or a major advertiser dropping AOL or an admission on the part of AOL that it is losing subscribers (You won't know this if it happens until AOL could no longer cover it up.)

Long term, I think folks will be won over to other ISP's, but it will take time. AOL (the company) does have a serious amount of momentum on its side in the battle.
