The General Instrument announcement is not negative. The announcement is for a video compression encoder that does incorporate VSB as past of the overall product. GI developed the compression tech with ATT as part of the Grand Alliance. This is a positive as it is another player entering the market with a commercial product for the broadcasters to choose in order to get the ball rolling quicker.

Dennis, This decision was made before Gannon came on board. Bill Sims had the biggest input. Zenith, for the first time, is placing a very high priority on marketing input to determine product-line mix.

The article failed to mention that Zenith will be making major cosmetic changes to better differentiate its products from the pack. Also, look for the Inteq line to be geared to the Home Theater crowd and to compete with the the "Runcos".
