Thanks for your response. Yes, Dell and CPQ used to trade in lockstep till the fall debacle. I agree with you that the merger is the only explanation for recent performance, with the possible addition of questions on inventory turns. It may explain post October performance also, I remember J. Cramer making comments to the effect that he thought CPQ would do a deal. It certainly put the brakes on this stock, especially in view of the fact that CPQ put up good numbers in OCT and JAN, and announced a split. The 'kick in the head' for me is when one looks at other techs that have announced splits recently (Lucent, Microsoft, and of course Dell come to mind) and their stock performances!!!
